Aloha dog lovers, The members of Let Us Run Our Dogs would like to extend our mahalo to you for your continuing support in our efforts to establish off leash dog parks in our community. We are happy to announce that we have obtained our 501 (c) (3), non-profit status, which allows us to receive tax deductable contributions and we are attempting to secure a location for our first dog park. Also, as a result of our attendance last year at the charrette for the master plan of the Old Airport park, we were assured there would be a site designated as an off leash dog park. The county required that we first change the law so that it would permit off leash areas on the Big Island. With public support, and the help of councilwoman Brenda Ford, we were able to bring that change about, and the current law now permits for our dogs to be off leash in designated areas. This is where we have run into a snag. Our efforts to work with the county to obtain land for our dog park have been unsuccessful to date. We have cooperated with our county officials and the parks and recreation department to the best of our ability, but they have yet to issue us permission to utilize any land area, including the area that was in the plan for the Old Airport! We need your show of support so that the county officials will realize how important it is to establish areas for our canine friends. Your cooperation in contacting the county and letting them know the importance of this issue is essential to this movement. We asked that you email the Bob Fitzgerald, Director of Parks and Recreation at parks_recreation@co.hawaii.hi.us, and Mayor Kenoi at cohmayor@co.hawaii.hi.us. We hope that we can count on your continued support. Please help this dream become realty by helping the one member of our families that are unable to speak for themselves. Mahalo Nui Loa, Tania Orol President
